Routers versus Identity Status

dear community, in my setup I can see the

  • Routers with green-APISession & green-EdgeRouterConnected Status and the routers are shown as "online"
  • but the identites of these routers show gray-ApiSession and gray-EdgeRouterConnected and when I step into identity details the identity is shown as offline.

How should I interprete this information?
Thx Reinhard

"online-ness" is a tricky topic. On the whole, these green bubbles are often useful for long-lived connections but can be nearly meaningless if the identity is "usually offline". For example, with a CLI-based program or something like that.... Anything short-lived, it's not all that relevant really.

For a router acting as a tunneler, I would assert the bubbles on the identity page aren't all that meaningful. I just looked at the routers page and I'm not sure those green bubbles are any better. They should likely be removed from the router page imo.

The bubble that IS important is the 'online' bubble (the "Online" column)

I'll poke others. If there's any other hot-takes on this, I'll ask them to post here.
