Running OpenZiti on GNS3

Hello,

I need to set up a Zero Trust solution with the help of OpenZiti on a GNS3 lab. However, I haven't seen any topic about setting up OpenZiti on GNS3. Is this possible?

Thank you in advance for your reply.

Hi @Celian_GTRD, welcome to the community and to OpenZiti (and zrok/BrowZer)!

I've never used GNS3 myself. We had a forum user use it a year or two ish ago, you can see the discourse post here: https://openziti.discourse.group/t/help-with-example-reflect-server

I don't know if or how it would matter or what it might entail. Sorry about that. If it's like any other linux machine you can do a quickstart type install (i'd recommend host it anywhere) or for a more production style deployment the deployment guide should work too. Controller Deployment | OpenZiti

Dunno if that helps but if you run into issues, let us know how we might be able to help.

Hi @Celian_GTRD,

I have done a similar project myself and it works just fine.

GNS3 is a network emulator where you can emulate entire network architectures including switches, routers, hosts and other various components. And by emulator it is meant that it emulates 100% of what you'll see in the outside world, so there's no difference. Running OpenZiti inside GNS3 is no different than running it outside.

If you’re just getting started, I’d recommend familiarizing yourself with GNS3 first , how it works (e.g. nested virtualisation / Qemu etc ...) and what it can do. Once you’ve got the hang of the basics, you can start building your project just as how you'd build it outside of GNS3.
